Meeting September 15th

Hey, everyone!  We had another great meeting this past Wednesday and welcomed 3 new members!  I just wanted to follow up so that we are continually making progress with the group and staying on top of things for the events that are coming up!  :)

Ok, we have to decide on the Ropes Course.  I've heard from some that they say they really want to do it, others absolutely do not want to do it, and then there are those that haven't said either way.  Here are some questions we need to answer, and if you feel uncomfortable sharing your opinions with everyone, just hit Reply instead of Reply to All, so that only I see them.  Here are the questions:

  • Do you want to participate in a ropes course team-building exercise?
  • Which part of the ropes course exercises are you interested in?
  • Do you feel we should all participate as a group or only those that want to?
  • It would be $20 per person for 4 hours, which would take approximately $300 out of our budget.  We only have $450 to spend per semester.  That would leave us with only $150 to last us until the next semester.  Which would you prefer?
    • Spend the $20 per person out of our group fund
    • Pay $10 out of your pocket to cut the group's expenses in half
    • Not do the ropes course at all
Second, is our LOGO!!!!!!  I'd like to have it done by Oct 1 so that we can have a banner made with it on there to put at the Oct 4 Diversity Fair event.  Members who said they would check into logos or knew of someone that could help create one were:
  • Molly
  • Matt
  • Amy R.
Planning some wheelchair sports for Disability Awareness Week:
  • Esha was going to look into Goal Ball
  • Molly was going to look into other wheelchair sports with her wheelchair basketball group
  • I will also send an email to the manager of the Connection Bowling Alley and copy Molly so that we can start a dialogue there of what can be done
Career Fair and the "Fine Art of Networking" on Oct 4, from 5:30-8pm at UMC 235.  If you are interested or can no longer make it to this event, please let me know.  Those that said they wanted to come and would help with a table are:
  • Eliot
  • Colin
  • Kelly K
  • Annabel
  • Amy
  • Esha
  • Daniel
Rec Center Renovations: We are waiting to hear back from John, the guy who initiated our help.  Those interested in participating were:
  • Molly
  • Me
  • Esha
  • Amy
Poster board or picture for Disability Services, which we need to have done by Oct 15:
  • Esha
  • Kelly
Student greeters for Open House at C4C building on Oct 15th from 2-4pm:
  • Colin
  • Amy
  • Esha
  • Daniel
Ok, that's it for now.  Please get back to me on the ropes course, and let me know if you would like to participate or can no longer participate in one of the things you are signed up for.  Remember, our next meeting is Wednesday, Sept 29th at 5pm, in the same conference room of the C4C building, right next to the office of Disability Services.

Welcome to CILA

We want to be a student group for people with and without disabilities, focusing on how we can become better leaders for ourselves and our communities.  We do that by attending and participating in the workshops at our meetings.  We also do that by taking on a leadership role for disability awareness on our campus through different events, sometimes even taking on the role of consultants for our campus.

This will be a place for us to share our ideas, meeting minutes, and to check in on our progress. Feel free to post to us and each other.
